Run Streak 1827: Five Years!
Day 1827 — Five Years! — in run streak, 10,8 kilometres. Celebratory run in Tinnerö among oaks. ❤
Five years… five! whole! years! Today marks the five year anniversary of my run streak.
So, for every single day during the run streak I’ve ran a minimum of 2,5 kilometres. For each run I’ve posted a blog entry and a tweet. I have no other rules for my running. I run as long or for as long as I feel like at the time of running; as long as it’s at least 2,5K.
Back then, in July of 2014, I started without actually knowing what to expect. For the first ten days I kept my plan secret for everyone. On the tenth day of the streak I told my wife and kids, and posted a blog post and tweeted. It was a bit scary, but I thought that after ten days I was ”safe” from at least immediate hubris!
The only drawback with running every day is that stuff breaks down from wear! Especially shoes, socks, and pants. The benefits are so profound, totally outweighing any petty drawbacks. Just the other day was a good example. I woke up feeling a bit worse for wear. The forest called, so I put on my running gear and ran out among the trees, following well-known trails. It had rained during the night, so everything smelled wonderful and the air was fresh. After my short (2,6K) run I felt fully revitalized. So simple, so great!
My plans for what to do next? Well, it is my five year anniversary today, but five years was never a goal, so tomorrow I will be out in the woods again. I’m grateful for every day I am able to do my run. I’ve been starting to formulate a small plan for a bigger thing, a bit of an adventure. Over the last year or so I have researched in preparation to be able run in the Japanese mountains. More specifically in the 熊野古道 (Kumano Kodō), following ancient pilgrim routes in the area of 紀伊半島 (Kii Hantō, the Kii Peninsula). Maybe, maybe in the Spring of 2021 that dream will come true…

In the picture: a sweaty me making a ”V” sign, V for five, obviously ;), behind me a pink alcea, and our new spiffy yellow trellis (just finished, made from scratch by my crafty wife Carina).
