Running is so liberating simple: what’s needed is a pair of comfortable shoes and then just head out in the woods! But, it is also fun that there are so many interesting things you can get beyond the shoes if you want to. And I want that! Since I started running and orienteering in the late 70’s, there has been a lot of amazing development in equipment and stuff!

Shoes

Today I have several pairs of Icebug running shoes that I switch between. The reasons why it became just Icebug are several. I started with the need to dub during the winter and Icebug was the logical choice for me. Then I have slowly but surely discovered their other models and that they fit my feet and habits.

In the fall and winter 2016/17 I ran exclusively in Icebug Zeal2, a pair of RB9X and an OLX. It continued until now in the spring of 2017. Icebug’s new model Oribi is what I’m running most recently (June 2017) and will also make a 100-day run streak with just Oribi on my feet.

In the fall season, I look forward to trying Icebug’s upgraded Zeal3 RB9X and also Spirit6 OLX.

I’ve previously sprung into a pair of Adidas Sonic Boost and New Balance 1260v3. I still have the adidas pair but do not use for running anymore; more for excursions in the forest. The NB1260s broke down so they’re gone forever.

Clothes

Asics clothes fit me well, they are comfortable. So I have sweaters, jackets and jackets from them. For some reason, my feet do not fit in Asics shoes. My heels always crush Asics…

When it gets really cool, I’m going to substitute for Icebreaker as well. Last winter it was not that often needed. I have an old hat from Craft from the nineties that I still like. It is thin and warms well. I have not found anything similar to it but soon it needs to be replaced as well.

Clock

For several years now I have used Garmin’s watches. Today I use their model Forerunner 945 LTE. As an old orienteerer, I love the map function!

Lamp

When it’s dark I put on my Petzl Nao+. It has been very good for my needs during the past winters.

Liquid

I never need to drink on distances under 15K or so. But when I run longer, I like to use NDURE bottles with bit nozzles. Very smooth and easy to use. I have four bottles of about 2 deciliter each.
